Insert (X)HTML DoctypesAn Extension for Dreamweaver MX & Up |
Insert (X)HTML Doctypes was born of necessity, as was my Insert Image+ extension. In versions of Dreamweaver prior to Dreamweaver MX, the support of HTML and XHTML doctype declarations was whatever you manually typed. Kind of lame for a professional product it seemed to me. Since I was always having to manually enter the doctypes so that my pages would validate correctly, I decided that the process needed to be automated. Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004 have improved the situation somewhat, but they still lacked the ability to easily switch doctypes. This is where Insert (X)HTML Doctypes comes in.
Having the proper doctype is not only necessary for validating your HTML and XHTML documents, but it also can greatly affect how your pages appear in modern browsers. Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Safari, and Internet Explorer use "doctype sniffing" to guess how a Web page should appear. If your page has the incorrect doctype, or none at all, it may not appear the way you intended.
I really enjoy working with Dreamweaver, but unfortunately I can't afford to do developing for free. If you want this extension I am charging only $10. This just helps pay the Web hosting bills and other small expenses.
